Is It Really Natural?
In the U.S. there are more than 100,000 petro-chemicals used in personal care products alone and thousands more in our household cleaning products. You might wonder… “
what’s so bad about petro-chemicals?”
From mineral oil to harmful plastic bottles, they are synthesized from crude oil. In the human body, a petro-chemical mimics estrogen, but since it is not a natural estrogen made by your body, it is responsible for health problems.
These chemicals have been labeled
hormone disruptors. As such, they affect how estrogen & progesterone function in the body by blocking them or interfering with their normal function.
Because they are synthetic, they disrupt the body’s natural hormone production & balance. Informed women, therefore, choose to limit their exposure to these chemicals. More,
here.
One of the most insidious, and at the top of
my personal blacklist, are the plugins that
claim to “
Add lasting and continuous fragrance to your living room, bedroom, busy bathroom, kitchen and other rooms“.
Oh my goodness!! Think about it,
the entire time you are in a room with a “plugin“, you are breathing synthetic estrogens!!! Is it any wonder that breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, after skin cancer, and about 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime!
In addition to those “
insidious plugins“, we need to avoid personal care products that are contain petro-chemicals. This includes cosmetics, perfumes, lotions, moisturizers, hair spray, etc… I think you get the idea.
Suffice it to say,
if it touches your skin, or, if you breathe it in, please, please make certain the label clearly states “petro-chemical free” or “all plant-based”.
Another important source of synthetic estrogens are found in commercially grown meat, poultry & dairy. The
Serenity Lifestyle, therefore, must include must include “
grass fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, pesticide-free” meat & dairy. You may ask, “
is the expense of higher quality animal products worth it?” Good Question! The simple solution is to eat smaller amounts of protein at a time (the average person only can assimilate approximately 25-30 grams of protein at a time, that’s 3.5-4 oz. of meat!).
Supplement your protein with more plant proteins such as pure protein powders, beans and legumes in place of meat. This is a great way to fulfill your body’s protein needs and increase your fiber consumption! Simply cutting out this one source of synthetic estrogen hormones has supported women and men’s health goals in a reasonably short time.
While these suggestions are an excellent start, you are probably wondering, “Wherever am I going to find all plant-based, petro-chemical free personal care products, and household cleaning products”.
